Dunes et Soleil at Marseillan-Plage, Languedoc

In the sunny South of France, Dunes et Soleil's beachside location makes it a highly popular holiday park. The golden, sandy beach which can be directly accessed from the Park is perfect for lazy sunbathing and/or swimming in the sea. With the beach so close the park does not have a swimming pool but it does have a splash and paddling pool to keep younger children entertained. There is a relatively simple snack bar and takeaway on the park but with the lively town centre of Marseillan Plage a few minutes? walk away there are plenty of catering options close by.

Domaine de la Rive at Biscarosse, Gascony

This park is nestled amongst acres of the famous Landaise Forests. Apart from boasting one of the best lakeside beaches in the South West and being awarded the prestigious La Clef Verte award, the owner has created a superb water park, which is being expanded to include a wave pool, jacuzzi, spa and massage water beds, all under a retractable dome roof. If you can tear yourself away from this, then you can indulge in a spot of tennis, archery or petanque. The delightful bar and restaurant overlook a well equipped and spacious play area and the quaint town of Biscarosse with its bars, shops and nightlife only a short drive away.

Club Farret at Vias Plage, Languedoc

Club Farret is a part of the Yelloh Village chain of campsites. A family run park, it offers everything that you would wish for in a sun and sand holiday, with plenty to do for the whole family. Set close to a long stretch of golden sandy beach this is a lively site with some great facilities. A lagoon style pool complex is a real suntrap, surrounded as it is by palms and shrubs. Children are well catered for with their own separate pool and seven playgrounds. For older children and adults there are also a wide range of sports activities ranging from table tennis to archery. Le Farret benefits from direct access to a wonderful sandy Mediterranean beach and the site's excellent restaurant and pirate-themed bar facilities have more than enough to entertain you for the duration of your stay, however if you can tear yourself away from the park a short 500m walk will take you directly into Vias Plage with its lively bars, restaurants and nightclubs.

Sylvamar at Labenne Ocean, Gascony

The excellent facilities, located away from our accommodation, include a lagoon style watermark complete with waterslides and lazy river, overlooked by the modern restaurant and bar terrace. It is just a fifteen minute walk or cycle to the fine sandy beaches of this area, and water sports facilities are widely available. Whilst there is plenty to do at this well-maintained campsite, the Les Landes forest is perfect for cyclists. Campsite rules are strictly enforced for the benefit and comfort of all guests. The facilities on this park are second to none, especially the superb aquatic area with its three pools, lazy river and triple waterslide. About 900m away, you can learn to surf and body board in the spectacular Atlantic waves. There are dozens of activities for kids of all ages, as well as entertainment, cantered around the bar-restaurant every night in high season, with the promise that all will be quiet after midnight. And the park owner is keen for all rules to be respected for the benefit and comfort of all guests. Beyond the park, Labenne offers endless forest roads and cycle paths; while the town itself has a splendid outdoor market, two petting zoos, as well as the lovely Marais d'Orx nature park.

Les Ecureuils at St Hilaire, Vendee

An ideal choice for younger families, Les Ecureuils has a wide beach just across the road, where golden sands stretch for miles. An attractive, well kept park which is landscaped with trees, hedges and flowers. You will find a great outdoor pool complex with waterslide, as well as an indoor pool and a fountain - great fun for the children. The park runs entertainment during the high season in its bar including family discos. The site is not far from several shops including a supermarket, which is open from June onwards.

This is a fantastic site to wander around; meet the birdlife along the riverside or the friendly ducklings in the grounds of the adjacent chateau. A member of the 'Castels' group, Ty Nadan offers excellent facilities, not least of which are three outdoor pools, an indoor pool and spa with an impressive waterslide and twisting water chute. With an indoor complex for badminton and rock climbing this park is perfect for active families, with evening entertainment for everyone organised throughout the season. Its wooded parkland setting is ideal for exploring on foot or on horseback and more energetic activities such as river canoeing, sea kayaking and guided mountain bike tours are also available. Despite these varied activities it's still a relaxing setting. In fact, in early and late summer the park is especially suited to those wanting a quiet holiday with small children and having direct access to the sandy banks of the river Elle it really comes into its own.

You can get a refreshing drink at the lakeside bar, or perhaps on the terrace next to the swimming pool complex where lots of evening entertainment is on offer. Pedalos can be hired on the campsite lake. There is a cosy pub with lakeside terrace and restaurant, plus all-weather football pitch and an activity programme all season. There is much to see here the Ile de Penotte, a picturesque old quarter in the town centre with pedestrian alleys and facades decorated with shells by a local artist, not to mention the La Chaume quarter, where the city originated, the fishermen's district, with the Place Sainte Anne and its magnificent trompe l'il fresco. The bar and terrace at Camping de l'Atlantique overlook the pools allowing you to keep an eye on the youngsters as they whiz down the slides. The lively bar hosts a variety of entertainment in high season, including karaoke, magic shows and a weekly disco.
