The campsite facilities are set in converted buildings in the courtyard ? the bar is housed in the old stables, while the restaurant with open fire and oak-beamed ceiling is in an ivy-clad outhouse. Domaine de Drancourt at St Valery, Picardy

The facilities at this park are very modern, including a fabulous pool complex with three slides, covered pool, impeccable wash blocks and an excellent take-away and restaurant. Le Moulin de Paulhiac has a beautifully restored watermill that welcomes you at the entrance and is a rural park with large grassy pitches set amidst the dappled shade of walnut, oak and apple trees. The owners also organise activities in high season, which include popular canoe trips. This is the real heart of the Dordogne too, with rolling wooded hillsides, sleepy, honey-coloured villages, crumbling old farmhouses and castles galore to discover.

Le Ruisseau at Biarritz, Gascony

Beside a small lake, this family-run park is just four miles from the elegant town of Biarritz. The Pyrenees form a magnificent backdrop to this park, which has terraced hillside pitches set amongst oak trees. A great water complex includes a four-lane waterslide, as well as a covered pool across the road in a newer part of the campsite. There is also a spa, gym, sun bed and sauna. If you head to the beach then you will find it is great for body boarding and surfing. Of course you are also on the doorstep of Spain and Pyrernees for great days out.

Le Clarys Plage at St Jean Plage, Vendee

The high point of many people's holiday here is the wonderful swimming pool complex with its sun terraces, outdoor pool, choice of water-slides, heated indoor pool and even a jacuzzi. And yet, the magnificent beach at Merlin Plage is just a short stroll away, with the beaches of St Jeande- Monts just a little further. Even so, superb swimming facilities and wonderful beaches are only a small part of the reason for coming to this super park. There is an excellent children's play area here, and activities are first class too, with lively regular entertainment in the bar throughout the season, sometimes going on quite late in high summer. There are also several restaurants open nearby in the height of the season. Some of our pitches are across a road from the main park facilities.

La Bien Assise at Guines, Picardy

Although it is a popular stopover on the way further South, La Bien Assise still has much to offer for a longer stay. Set in the parklands of graceful chateau, it makes a delightful setting for the spacious pitches of this small 'Castels' park. The park has excellent facilities that include a pleasant restaurant and a covered pool, with a waterslide for the children. This relatively undiscovered area offers you the best of both worlds too, a rural setting for getting away from it all, and a coastline that teems with sandy beaches and bustling resorts. The park also organises walks in the surrounding woods and water sports enthusiasts will love nearby Lac d'Ardres.

La Foret at St Julien des Landes, Vendee

Just a 10 minute walk from St Julien-des-Landes, this park has a peaceful, rural setting in the parklands of a chateau. Catering for the whole family there is plenty of space for the children to play, and two pools set either side of the chateau. There are 3 lakes for fishing and you will find the bar and many of the park facilities in an attractively converted ivy-clad stables.

Les Mouettes at Carantec, Brittany

The park has a feeling of peace and spaciousness and coupled with the excellent facilities makes it popular with families. Most of the pitches are grassy and some are partly shaded; the park is looked after to a high standard with mature trees and shrubs enhancing the area. Les Mouettes offers a fantastic pool complex including a lazy river and magnificent slides and planned for 2010 is a covered pool. Morlaix is worth visiting with its pretty setting along a river estuary and its old, cobbled shopping streets.

Yelloh Village la Petite Camargue at Aigues-Mortes, Languedoc

While the site is quiet in low season, this is a lively site in July and August that makes a great location for a family holiday. There are excellent facilities for the whole family here, including a large swimming pool (complete with shallow area for toddlers), plus a range of activities, including horse riding, bike hire and tennis. The pitches are partially shaded by tall trees, relax here with a good book, or enjoy a cooling drink at the bar terrace which overlooks the pool. As evening falls, enjoy a delicious meal at the restaurant before watching the organised entertainment. Teenagers especially will enjoy the nightly disco.

Le Touquet at Le Touquet, Picardy

The large pitches are positioned in both wooded and open areas. At the centre of the site is a rustic chateau surrounded by a moat, which houses a cosy bar and restaurant with a patio area overlooking the pool. The tropical pool complex offers three pools, bridges, slides and water chutes. Theres also a covered pool, a jacuzzi and a sauna. The sporting activities here are excellent. The energetic can enjoy floodlit tennis, volleyball, archery and football, while the more sedate can spend an afternoon fishing at the chateau moat.

La Ravoire at Annecy Doussard, Alps

The pool complex offers all the family somewhere to swim as well as a great water slide; however it is the mountains and the azure waters of the lake surrounding Annecy that make it so special.
