There's a lovely air of relaxation about this part of the Vendee too, with its myriad of cosy cafes and seaside stalls selling local wine and produce. And should you just want to explore, you'll find that the whole area is covered with fragrant pine forests.

And yet, the magnificent beach at Merlin Plage is just a short stroll away, with the beaches of St Jeande- Monts just a little further. Even so, superb swimming facilities and wonderful beaches are only a small part of the reason for coming to this super park. There is an excellent children's play area here, and activities are first class too, with lively regular entertainment in the bar throughout the season, sometimes going on quite late in high summer. There are also several restaurants open nearby in the height of the season. Some of our pitches are across a road from the main park facilities.

This campsite really is something special. Nestled in the gorgeous green Dordogne countryside, high up on a hill sits Domaine de la Paille Basse, a 5* Castels campsite. The site is an old Medieval Village which has been entirely restored in keeping with the local and historic architecture of this region. Domaine de la Paille Baisse is a fantastic base for an active holiday with lots of activities arranged on site and plenty to do and see off site too. On site the tranquil pool area is the perfect spot to soak up the sunshine and relax. Kids can play around in the childrens pool and there are waterslides too for the more adventurous. In the evening, take a seat in the old barn that now houses the pretty restaurant to enjoy some delicious regional dishes.
